Gum disease affects half of all American adults and has strong links to serious health conditions such as heart and lung disease, diabetes, pregnancy complications, and more. When a person has gum disease, bacteria and toxins from the mouth can travel into the bloodstream and wreak havoc on the heart and other major internal organs. The good news? Gum disease is nearly always caused by poor oral hygiene, which means it is nearly entirely preventable - just be sure to keep up with proper daily brushing and flossing, as well as regular dentist visits!
